Welcome

Interactive Learning Consultation

Thank you for your visit. I consult with institutions needing curriculum development and educational technology services. I offer design, development, and implementation of web technologies as a communicative tool within organizations, as an aid to public relations, and as an extension of the classroom. My expertise is in management of web systems for the K-12 environment at the district level. In addition, I offer professional development workshops in the areas of web development, media production, and media literacy.

I have been programming for the web since 1996. In 2003 I began to serve as the webmaster for the Henderson County Public Schools (HCPS). HCPS is a medium sized school district in North Carolina with 21 schools and approximately 1800 employees. My responsibilities include: building a variety of web-based tools integrating web-to-database interactivity, programmed in PHP and MySQL; administrating the district's Mac OS X web server; managing a variety of custom and packaged software; and teaching professional development workshops for faculty and staff. This experience has demanded an understanding of district level K-12 technology administration and the professionalism it requires. My work with HCPS continues.

As a graduate student at Appalachian State University, I incorporated two major elements of study: media literacy and distance education. My academic work connects the development of media literacy with social competence in young children. As a graduate assistant of the Curriculum and Instruction Department, I programmed web media for their distance-learning program and managed an educational media lab where students and faculty develop multi-media projects. I also taught media literacy modules to college level students. Graduate school instilled in me a desire for learning and expertise in implementing and managing distance learning and curriculum development initiatives.

My educational expertise began, what now seems like a long time ago, at Newcomb College Nursery School in New Orleans. Over ten years of experience as an early educator gives me an especially keen knowledge of the temperament and capabilities of young children and a natural affinity with them, their teachers, and the classroom. The avocation for the wellbeing of children began at Newcomb and has endured. If you find that my skills and experience are a fit for your needs, please contact me. I would very much like to speak with you regarding your needs and how we might work together.

Sincerely,

Ben Goliwas
